The Crow

THE CROW
BASED ON THE GRAPHIC NOVEL BY: James O’Barr
CREATIVE CONSULTANT: James O’Barr
PRODUCER: Edward Pressman
STUDIO: Relativity

The reboot of The Crow has been locked in financial turmoil, including studio Relativity forced to declare bankruptcy, pushing back the production start date indefinitely. Producer Edward Pressman has filed an objection with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in New York claiming that Relativity is not interested in producing The Crow.  Relativity has invested “in excess of $7 million” in The Crow remake, including acquiring  any prequels, sequels, and remake rights.  Pressman does not want Relativity to to include The Crow as an asset in any potential sale of the studio. The Studio and Pressman signed a deal in early 2014, giving Relativity three years to start shooting, with the film playing in at least 1000 theaters. If Relativity can’t finance a production start date by early 2017, the rights return back to Pressman.

Director Colin Hardy already replaced F. Javier Gutiérrez, who left due to the long delays in starting production because of the financial issues. Most of the cast has left the production by  September 2015. Relativity has listened to offers for The Crow from other studios, but has refused to sell the rights because the franchise is its most valuable asset. Hardy departed the project in March 2016.
