On July 8, 2014, it was announced a live-action remake of the Walt Disney classic Dumbo was in development. Ehren Kruger (Transformers) is the screenwriter, and Justin Springer (Tron: Legacy) will be the producer as will Kruger. Kruger is best known for writing the last three Transformer films. On March 10, 2015, it was announced that Tim Burton will direct the live-action feature.
This is not the first time Disney has attempted to resurrect the Dumbo franchise. On  the 60th Anniversary DVD Edition (2001), a sneak peak of Dumbo II with new characters and storyboards were included. Robert C. Ramirez was hired to direct the  film focusing on Dumbo’s missing father Mr. Jumbo. The story included Dumbo and his circus friends getting lost in a big city after the circus left town and was to take place immediately after the events of the first film. In 2006, when John Lasseter was named Chief Creative Officer of Walt Disney Animation, the project was cancelled.
