Frozen Fever was a short film released Spring 2015. A press release on Sept. 3,, 2015, stated …it’s Anna’s birthday and Elsa and Kristoff are determined to give her the best celebration ever, but Elsa’s icy powers may put more than just the party at risk.” Olaf, the snowman, also will make an appearance in the film.

Disney Theatrical Productions is developing a Broadway stage musical, which will require 4-5 new songs, all to be produced by the original production team. John Lasseter has given the greenlight to explore different areas the creative team is passionate about within the world of Elsa, Olaf and company, but a sequel was not mandated by the corporate heads. The idea of “forced storytelling” of a potentially inferior sequel is not something Disney is looking  for. This changed on March 12, 2015 when Walt Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed there will be a feature film sequel.

The stage adaptation will premiere at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts in August 2017 and head to Broadway in spring 2018. Songwriters Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez will reunite to compose original songs, and screenwriter and co-director Alex Timber will write the musical’s book. Choreography will be handled by Tony Award winner Peter Darling, best known for his work on Matilda and Billy Elliot.
