The Incredibles

WRITER: Brad Bird
PRODUCTION COMPANY: Walt Disney Pictures, Pixar Animation Studios
DISTRIBUTOR: Buena Vista Pictures
At the Walt Disney shareholders meeting in March 2014, Disney CEO & chairman Bob Iger confirmed that Pixar is working on another The Incredibles film, with original writer/director Brad Bird returning to write the script. No release date has been set.
On May 18, 2015 Bird told IGN: ““A lot of superhero films have been made since ‘Incredibles’ and it is kind of like an athletic field that’s just kind of dried up dirt now, with a few clumps of grass. And I think the challenge is, how do you step outside of that and say, ‘Hey, there’s another place for our heroes to go.’ So that’s kind of the challenge. I want them [the audience] to zig when they should be zagging,”
In September 2015 Bird stated: “I have the story arc. I’m probably three-quarters through the script, first pass through the script, but we’re already boarding parts of it. I’ve got a lot of people that worked on the first one working on it, so we’re all having a good time with it.” In reference to the recent glut of Superhero films, Bird added: “What’s changed is there were only two other superhero franchises at the time Incredibles came out. One of them was X-Men and the other was Spider-Man, and now there are 400 billion of them and there’s a new superhero movie every two weeks. What you don’t want to do is trot over the same turf in the same way everyone else is. So we’re trying to keep it focused in the area that our film was, which was a little bit more about characters and relationships and stuff like that, and see where that takes us. But we’re having a good time.”
