Jason Statham is very busy in the Franchise building. The action star has just acquired the rights to “Viva La Madness,” J.J. Connolly’s sequel to his novel “Layer Cake” (2000). Stratham will also star in the role originally played by Daniel Craig in the 2004 crime thriller and Connolly will return as the screenwriter. Only two characters from “Layer Cake” will return, the unnamed narrator (Craig/Stratham) and his partner Mister Mortimer (aka Morty), who was played by George Harris in the original film.
Because “Layer Cake” the film had a different ending in the novel, there has been some confusion. “Viva La Madness” begins in the Caribbean with Morty recruiting the narrator (Stratham) back to London’s crime syndicate.
Stratham’s franchise work doesn’t stop there; he will ber eprising his roles in the FAST & FURIOUS 7 (currently filming) and THE EXPENDABLES 3. And for those keeping score, Stratham has also starred in the TRANSPORTER series and appeared uncredited in THE PINK PANTHER remake.
