Star Wars: Rogue One -Dead Stormtroopers & Burnt X-Wing Fuselage, Oh My
Ron Seifried | On 15, Sep 2015Leaked on-set pictures seems to be the new marketing reality in hyping the latest tentpole films. The Star Wars franchise is not immune to such staged smuggling, with the latest aerial pics from the set of Star Wars: Rogue One showing off what the general public already knows will take place in that galaxy far, far away: dead stormtroopers and crashed spaceships. What Walt Disney and Lucasfilm want to reveal, they will handle the marketing themselves, thank you very much. The latest gimmick is to make it appear that some creative sleuth managed to penetrate the airspace over the set of a $150 million movie set with the sub-$1k drone and capture a few nondescript photos and “leak” them to TMZ for a brief window of exclusive web trolling. We took the bait…here are the latest pics taken on September 9, 2015 from the set of Star Wars: Rogue One.
Star Wars: Rogue One is the first of three proposed spin-off films in the Star Wars universe. The plot was revealed by director Gareth Edwards at Star Wars Celebration back in April 2015 centering around a group of Rebel fighters who steal the Death Star plans leading up to Episode IV: A New Hope. The film will be the first in the franchise with a female lead (Felicity Jones) and will be the first not to include any Jedi Knights. At Star Wars Celebration 2015, Edwards added this would be more of a war film “…it’s the reality of war. Good guys are bad. Bad guys are good. It’s complicated, layered; a very rich scenario in which to set a movie.” The story was conceived by John Knoll, a Visual Effects Supervisor on all three Star Wars prequels, the 1997 Special Editions of the original trilogy, two Star Trek films and dozens of other features dating back to 1989. He won the Oscar for Best Visual Effects for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men’s Chest.
